A trail is missing from the map — can I add it?

Updated 2026-08-16

Yes. TrailRunner Mini routes along the OpenStreetMap trail network, and you can edit it yourself. A trail that is missing, mis-tagged, or shown as public behind a gate is something you fix once for everyone.

Open the editor where you are looking

  1. Frame the spot on the map.
  2. Choose Map › Edit in OpenStreetMap.
  3. Sign in with a free OpenStreetMap account.
  4. Draw the missing path, say what kind of way it is, and save.

Your browser opens the editor centred on that same place, zoomed in close enough to work. You do not have to find the location again by hand. This works from the Mac, iPhone and iPad alike.

Tip: OpenStreetMap is a wiki for maps. Corrections from people who were actually there are exactly what it is for.

Things worth fixing, beyond a missing path

Seeing your edit come back

Your change is live on OpenStreetMap immediately. It takes a while to flow through into routing.

After that, your device may still be showing the copy it downloaded earlier. Choose Map › Refresh Region to revalidate the visible area and fold in what changed. See why trails need a download first for how that cache works.

When you need the route today

Editing the map is the durable fix, not the fast one. To plan right now, use the Straight toggle. It connects the two waypoints with a direct line across the gap.

Tip: do both. Take the straight line for today's route, and make the edit so the trail is simply there next time.
